Career exploration involves several steps and meetings in order to gather information and to build on awareness. It’s much like discovering pieces to a puzzle and putting the pieces in place until a clear picture begins to appear. Examples of some of these pieces are your skills, interests, personality type, and life experience.
On this journey of career exploration there will be an intake interview, which provides an opportunity for me to get to know you and where you have been. Following some simple testing, covering those pieces of your puzzle mentioned earlier, we will look at the results together and put them together for a better understanding of where you might want to go and the world of work that fits you. Thus, we have the puzzle beginning to take shape.
The next step is looking into the different options in order to learn more and, perhaps, narrow the options. There is a great deal of information available to aid in exploring different careers and specific jobs, including projected demand in a particular field and salary ranges in various geographical areas.
My personal style and philosophy is based on a student centered, safe and open communication. I enjoy helping students put their puzzle together, and I expect them to participate and take responsibility for their role in the career search. I believe this is work that will serve students well in the near and distant future.
