DISCOVER is a comprehensive computer program that will help you with career planning. Whether you want immediate up-to-date information or help with creating a complete career plan, DISCOVER will meet your needs.
• Learn about Self and Career The first part of this program helps you consider what you like to do, what you do well, and what you may value in a job. You may take any or all of the three inventories at the computer in multimedia format (or enter your scores from the paper/pencil format) and DISCOVER will then suggest job families (groups of occupations) on ACT's World-of-Work Map for you to explore.
• Choose Occupations This section help you identify possible occupations and learn about them. Whether you have taken any of the inventories in the first Section, want to explore occupations on the World-of-Work Map, want to do a search by characteristics (such as salary, education level, etc.), or simply browse the master database, there is a library of valuable information about occupations in DISCOVER. Other look-up methods include occupations related to high school subjects, majors, or military specialties.
• Plan My Education If you plan to receive further education or training, this section is a "must." Hall 3 will help you choose a major area of study related to your occupation choice(s), find a school or institution that offers that major, and search for scholarships and financial aid that may be available. DISCOVER offers schools, and schools offering external degrees. A large national database of scholarships is also available, in addition to a Financial Aid Analysis form and other information about Federal Financial Aid Programs.
• Plan for Work This section will help you prepare for the job market. The sections about apprenticeships, internships, and military service provide information about way to combine learning and paid employment.
