Web Design

What is Multimedia?

Multimedia is the use of text, pictures, graphics, animation, audio and video to deliver web or disk-based information.

Nature of the Work

Designs and constructs web pages/sites including incorporating graphic user interface (GUI) features and other techniques. Maintains and provides ongoing design of the website, promos and ad banners, seasonal content specials and custom chat launcher design for partners. A web page designer helps businesses ranging from florists to yacht-makers design a "shingle," or "home page," on the Web. As a Web page designer, you'll help decide how the site should look and what information it should provide, and how that information should be organized. You'll then help write text, scan photos, build graphics, and create the underlying software code to run the program. In addition to creating the site, some Web page designers maintain the site on the Internet for a monthly fee.

Job Outlook

This is a fast-growing field. Companies rely on their sites to educate customers about products, recruit new employees, take orders, and provide technical assistance.

Earnings

A typical Web Designer working in Dallas, TX is expected to earn a median base salary of $51,134. Half of the people in this occupation are expected to earn between $41,359 and $58,092 (i.e., between the 25th and 75th percentiles). These numbers are based on national averages adjusted by geographic salary differentials. *Source: Hoovers Online Salary Wizard
