What they do...

Installs, configures and maintains an organizations' operating systems. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with server hardware UNIX, applications software. Detects, diagnoses, and reports UNIX related problems on servers. May require a bachelor'' degree in a related area and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Little creativity is required. Typically reports to a project leader or manager.

Possible Skill Set:

Knowledge of VAX/VMS, AS/400, RS/600, HP/UX system internals, operating systems and security concepts. Hardware implementation skills, including server installation, disk configuration, and knowledge of printer, tape drive, and network setup. Knowledge and/or experience with system administration, implementation, monitoring, and recovery techniques may be required for OS/400, Unix/AIX, and VMS. System programming in a variety of languages such as CL, RPG, and ILE RPG, Perl and Korn Shell scripting. Understanding of database concepts including DB2/400, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL, Server.

Typically these individuals must possess strong organizational and prioritizing skills. They must be capable of working with limited supervision, possess the ability to partner with technical and non-technical users. These technical professionals must have strong oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
