We will explore the aging of your parents and suggest solutions to make your role as caregiver more effective. You will need information as your parents become frail or develop chronic conditions. This course will examine the care-giving issues, types of information you need, and how to get it. We will also discuss how to improve communication with your parents and how to open a conversation with them about future needs.
This is not a ‘canned’ course. It will address your specific concerns and
provide you with a forum for getting answers to your current dilemmas. We will cover medical conditions, medications, how to find a physician for an older person, Medicare, Medicaid, and HMO’s. The class includes information on legal documents, end of life instructions and DNR’s. You will be given assessment tools to help you identify environmental hazards in the home, suggestions for safety modifications, and a rating sheet to use when you visit congregate facilities. Students will learn the Argentine Tango method of walking; basic pattern with closure and resolution; forward & backward Ocho's; and break & cross steps. Participants will be able to use these patterns and movements improvisational on the dance floor.
