Philosophy

How are honors classes different from other sections?

Honors classes are designed for students who enjoy active participation in the classroom. Instructors are discussion leaders and group facilitator more often than lecturers. Honors classes are smaller to encourage student involvement. Formats may include seminars, team-taught classes, accelerated courses, interdisciplinary courses, and courses with honors components.

What is an honors "core" course?

The honors "core" classes are interdisciplinary team taught classes which are designed around a central theme. Students respond to readings or other activities relating to these themes through class discussions and writings. A team of faculty is present in the class to help students focus their discussions and writings. These courses are: ENGL 1302 Myths to Live By, ENGL 2333 Quest for World Community, CUST 2370 On Being Fully Human.

What is an honors component class?

Some instructors encourage interested students who are enrolled in a regular section to complete an honors project to receive honors credit for that course.
