How to Apply for Federal Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans
To apply for federal loan programs (Stafford Loan and PLUS), the student must:
- Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available on www.fafsa.ed.gov and make sure it is sent to Richland College (federal school code 008504);
- Register for at least 6 credit hours on or before the 12th class day of each Fall and Spring semester;
- Maintain at least half-time enrollment (6 credit hours) and certified as attending those classes by each instructor;
- Meet the Financial Aid Standards of Academic Progress;
- Not be default on any federal loans. For parent PLUS loan borrowers, the parent borrower must also not be on default on federal loans.
- Stafford Loan borrowers must sign up and attend a Loan Counseling session to obtain a Stafford Loan application.
- For PLUS loan borrowers, the parent borrower must fill out a PLUS Loan Request form and submit to our office either by fax, by mail, or in person.
- Student/Parent borrower will receive an email notice from the guarantor and from the financial aid office when their Stafford/PLUS loan is ready to apply for on TG Loans By Web.
All Stafford Loan and PLUS loan borrowers have to complete the loan guarantee process on TG Loans By Web.
