How To Choose A Lender
Federal regulations allow students and parents to choose any lender when borrowing Federal Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans (for parents). The following tips are provided to help you with your selection:
- • Choose a lender that provides exceptional customer service. Be certain the lender you choose offers: a toll-free number, an interactive website, and knowledgeable and courteous loan consultants
- • Select a lender that offers savings. Be certain your lender offers discounts and benefits to borrowers.
- • Ask questions about the lender. Find out if your lender sells your loans to another company. Check to see who services the loan and if there is more than one company involved.
- • Parent borrowers may want to select a lender that offers resolution for adverse credit. PLUS loans require a credit check; some lenders have staff that work with creditors to resolve outstanding credit issues.
