      • Computers: 44—all connected to the Internet; full multimedia capabilities. These computers are used over 12,000 times
        each month
        to access information. Thirteen laptops are available for in-library use.
      • Electronic Subscription Databases: over 150 subscription databases are provided by the DCCCD, Richland, and TexShare.
      • E-books available through NetLibrary: over 28,000

Information Literacy Instruction Program:

      • Richland Library’s award-winning instruction program offers free classes on basic research and library skills,
        searching the Web
        , using databases and the library catalog, and documenting research with MLA,
        along with other topics to help students become information literate.
      • Average Number of Information Literacy Classes taught each year: 280.
      • Average Number of Students attending Information Literacy Classes each year: over 4,000.
      • Information Literacy Certificates awarded: 1,880 since program began in Spring 1998.

        EBSCO Achievement Award for Outstanding Program Development 1999.

Information Literacy Publications:

      • Richland College Library Handbook contains a glossary of research terms, concepts related to electronic searching,
        Boolean, list of electronic databases, use of the online library catalog, documentation of print and electronic sources,
        search strategy, evaluation of print and electronic resources, etc. Available on the Library’s Web site.
      • Help Sheets, to assist in the use of electronic databases and the Internet. Available in print and on the Library’s Web site.
      • Help Sheets to assist in the writing of MLA citations. Available in print and on the Library's Web site.
      • Topics List to assist students in topic selection. Available in print and on the Library's Web site.
      • Sample Research Paper with Works Cited list. Available on the Library's Web site.

Special Guides for Students:

      • ASAP: A Student Assignment Planner used for keeping research assignments on track and finished on time.

      • NoodleTools: A citation generating program to aid students in creating their works cited pages.
