Media Equipment - Media’s phone numbers are 972-238-6085 or 6086. Media is located in B217/B218. One of our primary tasks is to coordinate the use of campus media resources to allow usage by as many of our instructors as possible.
In our effort to provide the best possible services, we have established the following guidelines: In order for us to support a number of instructors at any given time, we ask that you give a minimum of 24 hours notice on all requests. Sooner is better. Allow even more time for high tech equipment, such as multimedia carts, lap tops, data projectors, etc. A brief orientation is necessary prior to your first use of many of these items.
Videotape resources: Media Services houses a large educational video collection to enhance and illustrate your subject area. In most cases, we deliver videotapes to your classroom prior to your class time. Tapes are secured in the VCR lock box found in most classrooms. We retrieve these materials after your class. Keys to the VCR lock boxes are available for full time faculty in the Media center, B-220, and for adjunct faculty, in the adjunct faculty office, E-055. You may also check out these videos for preview prior to classroom use.
Inter campus loan
materials: Videos and other non-print materials are available for loan
from other DCCC campus media centers. In order to get these materials processed
and delivered to Media Services for your use, these requests should be submitted
no later than one week prior to your use date. When requesting via email or
phone, media’s email address from within the DCCC network is 8media. To email
from outside the DCCC network, use rlc8620@dcccd.edu. Media’s phone numbers
are 972- 238-6085 or 6086.
Please include
the following information in your request: Instructor's Name Date and
time your class or event begins and ends Room number or location Materials and/or
equipment needed plus any special considerations.
Searching for non-print classroom materials: You can locate video and other non-print materials via the library catalog. The library catalog records include a great deal of information about the materials, including a summary of the content. For those who are new to the library catalog, we will be happy to provide instruction in its use. For those who don’t have access to a home or office PC, there are a number of computers in the library available for this purpose. When searching the DCCC Library Catalog, you can search by all of the parameters listed. We recommend that you first explore the help link, "Click here for help on using these searches." The help menu will give you detailed information about the various searches. Note: For those of you who will be primarily searching for video titles and other non-print media materials, pay particular attention to the help option called "limit this search." This option allows you to limit your search results by material type and/or campus location.
Student Use of Media Resources: Although Media Services primarily supports faculty, we realize that students may wish to utilize campus resources for classroom presentations, etc. The instructor, who should follow the same guidelines required for any other classroom media request, must make these arrangements. If your area of discipline requires students to do classroom presentations, please inform your students that they will need to provide their media needs to you well in advance, so that the necessary arrangements can be made. This also pertains to students who plan on providing their own cameras, lap tops or other equipment when an interface with Richland’s equipment is required. This often includes special equipment preparations and/or a brief orientation to familiarize you with the operation of specific equipment. Remember that you, the instructor, are responsible for the requesting and proper operation of classroom media equipment. We can neither take requests from, nor check out materials and equipment directly to your students.
Off Campus Use of Equipment: Certain Media equipment and materials are available for school related off-campus use. Due to limited availability of these items, arrangements must be made well in advance.
