Students may complete the instructions below as a substitute for attending the library class Research 1: Introduction to College Research. After completing these requirements, you may pick up a "proof of completion" slip at the Reference Desk in the library.
PART I: View the PowerPoint Introduction and Photo Tour
You will need to read and study the information you find in the "Self Guided Library Photo Tour." This is a presentation that will give you an introduction to college research at the Richland College Library. It covers the same information that is taught in the classroom.
Pay close attention to all that you read, because all of the quiz questions are taken directly from the "Self Guided Library Photo Tour".
Also, it will help you answer questions correctly if you explore the Richland College Library home page. You can learn a lot by just clicking on the different links.
Now you are ready to view and carefully read the information in the Self Guided Library Photo Tour.
Part 2: Complete the Research 1 Online Quiz
Complete the 30 self-check questions. To earn credit for the Research 1 class, you must score 95 points, or more, out of 100. Make sure you use a computer that is connected to a printer.
HINT: Answer each question carefully, because you will not get a second chance.
HINT: Answers must be typed and spelled correctly.If you fail to earn a score of 95, or better, you can start over and retake the quiz.
After completing the online quiz: Print out the Score Summary you receive at the end of the lesson. Be sure to write your student ID number beside your name. Bring your Score Summary printout to the Reference Desk at the Library to receive your "proof of completion" slip for the research 1 class.
Important: While you are working on the quiz, it will be helpful if you keep 3 windows, or tabs, open - one for the quiz - one for the "Self Guided Library Photo Tour" - and one for the Library Home Page. This way, you can move back and forth, if you need to look for the correct answer.
