Pre-Professional Healthcare

Get Experience

Some of the health professions programs---allied health, medicine, and dentistry---strongly urge prospective students to work with or volunteer for a healthcare professional (in the specific field to which the person is applying) or, at the very least, get some experience in a healthcare setting of some sort.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED:

  1. Volunteer at a large hospital (Presbyterian or Parkland Hospitals in Dallas have large volunteer services areas)
  2. Work at a doctor's office
  3. 'Shadow' a healthcare provider (doctor, dentist, etc.)
  4. Become an emergency medical technician or paramedic

If you need some ideas on where or how to go about this, contact Jackie Reynolds.
