Richland College Silver Ducks

The Silver Ducks fitness program is a group of physical education classes specifically designed for mature kids 55 years and older. Be sure to open the links in our Photo Album and see all our fun pictures!

As an integral part of Richland's Emeritus Program, the Silver Ducks fitness classes are your opportunity to have fun and meet new friends while doing something good for your body.

Coaches Bill Neal and Ranna Lucas have designed a five-spoke movement activities program that currently serves a community of over 250 Silver Ducks ranging in age from 55 to 90. The five-spoke philosophy integrates lectures, mat exercise sessions, weight training and cardiovascular segments to achieve:

  1. Cardiovascular improvement
  2. Muscular strength
  3. Muscular endurance
  4. Flexibility/coordination
  5. Rehabilitation

Here's how to become a Silver Duck:

  1. Emeritus catalogs for the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters provide a wealth of information including class offerings, meetings times, dates and registration information.
  2. Each physical fitness class in the program is a one-hour college credit course.
  3. The State of Texas currently allows students 65 years of age and older to take six hours of college credit classes per semester free of charge.
  4. Students under the age of 65 pay a standard tuition fee of approximately $39 per one-hour credit PE class, per semester.
  5. Registration for any credit physical fitness class in the Emeritus program includes free access to Richland's comprehensive Fitness Center.
  6. The tuition waiver for students 65 and older does not apply to non-credit classes. Continuing education classes are available through Richland's Continuing Education Department.

Silver Ducks have a great time together during class activities, holiday parties or end-of-semester picnics. Please check out our photo collection and plan to be in one of these pictures some day soon. Photos for additional PE class offerings in the Emeritus Program such as Tai Chi, Golf, Basic Yoga and Gentle Aerobics will be added as they become available.

Silver Ducks are proud to be a part of the Emeritus Program. For more information about the Richland College Emeritus Program, please visit the Emeritus (Senior Adult Education) website or call the Emeritus Director at (972) 238-6393.
