The School of Teacher Preparation

Overview

What is Teacher Preparation?

Richland College offers programs to prepare students to enter a career in education from the para-professional level to the certified professional teacher level.

A variety of education/teaching associate degrees are available to transfer to university teacher certification bachelor degree programs for students who plan to become a certified teacher.

What is Educational Personnel?

The Teacher Assistant Program at Richland College provides courses and instruction for students to develop skills and knowledge to work effectively with school age children.

The Educational Personnel Program is unique in its design. It prepares paraprofessional educators (Teacher Assistants, Instructional Aides) to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements to be employed in public schools.

Educational Personnel is also a university transfer program providing the first two years of a four year EC - 4 teacher certification degree.

What is Alternative Certification for Teachers?

The Alternative Certification for Teachers Program at Richland College is an alternative route to certification. It is approved and fully accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), meets the requirements of Texas preparation programs, and is supported by educational parents via collaboration with school districts in the service area.

The Alternative Certification for Teachers Program is a fast-track route to becoming a certified teacher for individuals who have completed a bachelor's degree.
